Brigden, ON (July 27, 2024) – The shores of the Atlantic Ocean welcomed riders from all over Canada this weekend as the Triple Crown Series tour visited Riverglade MX in Moncton, New Brunswick. Fans packed the stands to cheer on hometown favourites and series leaders as they battled bar to bar at the historic facility before the tour turned east for the final two rounds.
Highlights
KTM Canada Red Bull’s Josiah Natzke dominated the first moto from holeshot to checkers, concreting his position in the premier 450 class. At the start of the second moto, Natzke suffered a big crash in the second corner, causing him to make a massive charge to get from dead last to 4th, giving him second overall on the day. His teammate, KTM Canada Red Bull’s Jess Pettis, set the fastest qualifying time with a 2:06.787, putting him on pace for a great day. Pettis went 2-1 for 1st overall on the day.
In the 250 class, Partzilla PRMX’s Gage Linville would dominate the day over KTM Canada Red Bull’s Kaven Benoit, who worked hard during both motos to secure 2nd overall and regain his red plates for the next round!
Moto one of the 250 class saw Partzilla PRMX’s Gage Linville jump to the lead ahead of GDR Honda Canada Fox Racing teammates Tiger Wood and Tyler Medaglia and WLTN Kawasaki’s Quinn Amyotte. Picking themselves up off the ground after an early crash were the series points leaders Kaven Benoit and US Kawasaki’s Team Green Drew Adams. Linville quickly gapped the riders while Beniot and Adams began a furious charge to the front of the pack. At Moto’s end, Linville would hold for his first moto win, Beniot second, and Medaglia would tip over in the last lap but manage to hold off the charging Priority MX’s Wyatt Kerr and WLTN Kawasaki’s Quinn Amyotte to finish third and fourth respectively. Series red plate holder Drew Adams would only return to 7th.
In the second 250 moto, Linville quickly retook the lead while Benoit worked to catch the American in second place. Again, Adams was stuck deep in the pack after a terrible start. Medaglia would be in a quiet third until Adams overtook him, taking the final podium spot. Linville would hold off the relentless Benoitt to claim his first-ever Canadian National overall win convincingly with a 1-1.
In 450 action, the KTM duo of Josiah Natzke and Jess Pettis set the tone for the day. Natzke jumped out early and set a blistering pace over teammate Pettis. Pettis and Natzke would set sail on the pack, where Yamaha Canada MX101 FXR rider Preston Kilroy would work his way into third ahead of a three-way battle of WLTN Kawasaki’s Tanner Ward, Honda-mounted Matti Jorgenson and Partzilla PRMX’s Aaron Tanti. With the top three secured, Ward would fumble and allow Jorgenson and Tanti through for fourth and fifth.
As they rounded the first corner in the second moto, it looked like a similar story with the KTM boys until corner two, when Josiah Natzke had a massive crash, dropping him to dead last. Aaron Tanti, Preston Kilroy, and Tanner Ward were in the chase. Pettis gapped the pursuers while Natzke set an exhausting pace through the field. The top four remained steady until Natzke finally caught Ward with two laps to go, scrubbing his way past the Kawasaki rider and securing second overall on the day.
In the FXR Premix competition, it was Sam Gaynor (1-1) who took home the win over Jonathon Bergeron (2-2) and Brandon Gourlay (3-3). Gaynor will battle American Jimmy Decotis this weekend in Deschambault, QC and KTM’s Marvin Musquin in Walton, ON on August 11th.
In the THOR WMX action, Jamie Astudillo went (1-1) to take her first overall win of the season ahead of Sky Racing’s Kayle Kayer (3-2), and Ferguson Racing’s Katrine Ferguson rounded out the podium with a (4-3), her best series finish to date. Series red plate holder Eve Brodeur suffered through a crash in Moto 2, allowing her only to climb her way back to 9th, holding her off of the podium for the first time this season.
Looking Ahead
The competition intensifies as the 2024 Triple Crown Series progresses, promising more exhilarating races and standout performances. Riders and fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming rounds, where the quest for the championship titles will continue as we head into the season’s final three races.
The series heads to Deschambault MX in Deschambault, QC, on July 28, 2024.
