MRC, to align with AMA, will allow the KTM and Husqvarna Motorcycles Electric models to race under MRC rules in all regions across Canada for 2020. The new 2020 bikes can race Provincial and National 50cc 4-6, 7-8, and Open classes.
The electric mini bikes must be completely OEM stock and follow the eligibility guidelines in the MRC Rulebook for 2020
“It’s pretty interesting to see where our sport is headed beginning at the very start of grassroots racing,” shares MRC Director Ryan Gauld. “For 2020 MRC will allow the new electric bikes to run in the 50cc classes in all regions and national events. We are not ready to have its own class just yet for the simple fact that there are not that many coming to Canada in this first year according to KTM and Husqvarna. This will be a trial year for electric bikes and their eligibility in the regular 50cc classes against the current models allowed.”
“In all of my years of racing I would have never expected an electric bike to become a race bike but it’s very exciting for KTM and Husqvarna to be at the forefront of this evolution in racing”, states KTM Canada’s Jean-Sébastien Roy. “Our company is always “READY TO RACE” so for 2020 it should be very exciting to see how these new models take too the tracks across Canada.
